The Pilates Ring (or Magic Circle) is one of the BEST TOOLS if you're doing home workouts and looking for immediate and effective muscular feedback for those hard-to-alter body parts like the upper arm (batwings, anyone?) and inner thighs (calling all Equestrians!) or glutes (that would be your ass!). Interested in wearing shorts this summer? You need this tool in your workout repertoire! If you're not currently doing home w...

Got Grumpy Joints?

Do you hear the sound of rice krispies when you bend your knees or go up and down stairs? Creaky shoulders that moan like they're haunted? Hips that snap, crackle, and pop? There's a name for that: crepitus. [Also: crepitation.] Sound like crep? (Sorry, Pilates joke.) It's actually fairly common. The only time you should really be concerned about your crepitus is if there's PAIN along with the grinding...

The pelvic floor is like a mini trampoline inside our bodies. When it's toned things function without our having to think about it. However, when we have urinary issues (takes a long time to pee or no control over the pee) or sex issues (Er... there's no THERE there... or it just hurts EVERY TIME?) or maybe we just have inexplicable tightness causing pain or laxity... DOWN THERE? There is a fix!

Both these tools pi...

For those of you who don't know: I'm a huge fan of Marie Forleo. She's been called the Oprah Winfrey of our generation, she's a super energetic and gregarious Sagittarius (like myself), and most importantly: she's a super-savvy business powerhouse who understands running a business in The Age of the Internet! (Why does that always sound so... ominous!?)

Look, if you don't know who Marie is check her out here....

Recently, I stumbled upon this great personality quiz online...

If you're in a rut, need some inspiration, or are struggling with how to get your CARDIO in or tweak your Pilates sessions to make them more effective--this quiz can help. Sometimes, all it takes is trying a different prop, being more consistent, and committing to your workouts with more frequency. Throw in something new: go on a hike with a friend, catch a game...

All too often I hear my students find an excuse to avoid their Pilates session. Pilates requires focusing our attention so completely on ourselves that it can be a bit like an hour under a microscope. That microscope can be daunting on days we're exhausted, over-burdened, or just in a mood. Exhaustion, being over-burdened, and even moods and feelings can derail a previously successful Pilates practice. When I hear students c...

Dormant butt syndrome is a thing. Sometimes, athletic students come to me (pilates) because they are strong in most places with a couple of exceptions. The hamstrings are often weak, the hips are often tight, and the number one problem is: they have no ass strength. The behind is falling behind, literally.

What does the shape of your derriere say about your health? Find out here

If you have a tushie like Kim Kardashian...

When school starts I struggle to get my DAILY CARDIO in. And the struggle is REAL. Living in L.A. and commuting my kid to school and myself to work and then throw in things like: volleyball games and practices, group class projects that turn into parent-child swap meets all over town, and toss weekly errands into the mix and sometimes I'm spending three-four HOURS in the car PER DAY.

Not only does all that sitting in traffic...

Many times I'm asked what brought me to Pilates. My one-word answer: childbirth. My daughter's entry into this world brought me to Pilates. I got pregnant, unexpectedly at the age of 23. At 24 she was born and afterwards, my body was officially, a wreck.

I was 50 pounds overweight, my abdominal muscles were stretched to the point of what felt like no return, and I had incontinence, and pain in my knees walking up a few s...
